Skandagiri is an ancient mountain fortress located approximately 70 km from Bangalore city, and 3 km from Chikballapur in the Indian state of Karnataka. The peak is at a high altitude of about 1350 meters. It is off Bellary Road and it overlooks Nandi Hills, Muddenahalli, and Kanivenarayanapura.
How to reach there :
From NH 7, turn towards Nandi Hills. At the base of Nandi Hills turn right and proceed to Kalawara village via Muddenahalli. If coming from Chikballapur proceed directly to Kalawara village. In Skandagiri night trekking has been completely banned by Chickballapur police, reasons cited by the police are, Some stretches of the hill are very slippery and could be fatal, Lack of any medical help nearby and danger from wild animals. All the local guides have been warned as well. Police are very serious about the ban after a recent case of death of a person while trekking. Police guard the base of the hill and they have set up some locals as well to catch anyone who attempts a trek. From 2013, day trekking is allowed.
