Shivagange is situated 8 km from the town of Tumkur and 54 km from Bangalore. Its a mountain peak with a height of 1368 meters and a famous Hindu pilgrimage center in Dobbaspet, Karnataka. The sacred mountain is shaped as a shivalingam and the spring which flows near is called “Ganga”, hence the name ‘shivagange’. A stone carving of ‘Nandi’- the bull can also be found here.
There are many temples in shivagange like Gangadhareshwara temple, It is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the first temples located on the climb uphill to the summit.There is an interesting belief about this temple that if an abhisheka is performed with ghee, the ghee will turn to butter. There are other temples like Olakal Teertha, Nandi Statue, Patalagange Sharadambe temple and several theerthas such as Agasthya theertha, Kanva theertha, Kapila theertha, Pathala Gange etc on the hill. The place is also known as Dakshina Kashi.Every year, A month long cattle fair is held during january,which is a market place for bullocks.The place is a well-known trekking spot. The entire trail to the peak is well marked is suitable for even beginners, safety rails are provided in areas where the trail becomes steep and narrow.
Shivagange is 60 km from bangalore. You will get buses from majestic (Platform No: 16) to tumkur, get down at Dabaspet and Shivagange is only 8 km from there.
