Shakuntala Devi – Human Computer
Shakuntala Devi is dubbed as the worlds fastest human computer. As a child prodigy, Her talents eventually earned her a place in The Guinness Book of World Records. She was also a writer who has penned novels, non-fiction texts about mathematics, puzzles and astrology. She also wrote about homosexuality, which is considered as the first of its kind in india.
Shakunthala devi didnt had any formal education, Even as a child She had the ability to memorise and calculate numbers and her father discovered this when she was just three. By the age of five, she became an expert in solving complex mental arithmetic calculations. In the year 1977,in US, She competed with a computer to see who gives the cube root of 188132517 faster, and she won. Later in 1980, She demonstrated the multiplication of two 13 digit number and gave the correct result in just 28 seconds..!! She had the ability to calculate the cube roots and seventh roots without the help of any calculator or writing it down. She passed away in a hospital in bangalore in April 2013 due to heart and kidney ailments at the age of 83. She is survived by her daughter Anupama Banerji.
