Sankey tank is a manmade lake situated in the western part of Bangalore and in the middle of the suburbs of Malleshwaram, Vyalikaval and Sadashiva Nagar. It covers an area about 37.1 acres and has a width of 800 metre. The tank was constructed by Col. Richard Hieram Sankey of the Madras Sappers Regiment in the year 1882 to meet the water supply demands of Bangalore. It was linked to the Miller’s tank and Dharmambudhi tank, It is one of the ideal place for relaxation. The large water body is a source of attraction for the locals as well as the tourists coming to Bangalore. The lake is taken care of by the State Forest Department. Though Bangalore has a pleasant weather throughout the year, It is better to visit sankey tank during summer time. The tank is open for public visit on all days from 6.00 AM to 8.00 PM except Fridays. There are taxis, cabs and autos that can be hired for a ride to the tank. Several BMTC buses also ply on that route via Bhashyam Circle. The lake can be effortlessly reached from any part of the city.
