Netrani Island (Pigeon Island)
Netrani Island also known as Pigeon Island is a tiny uninhabited Island lies approximately 10 nautical miles (approx.19 km) from the temple town of Murudeshwara. The island is heart shaped in Ariel view. It is a coral island and is suitable for snorkelling and diving activities. The depth of the ocean bed ranges between 6 to 40 meters and the island is known as a scuba diving destination that offers excellent diving suitable for certified divers of all experience levels. You can spot Turtles, Napoleon Wrasse, Great Barracuda, coral, butterfly fish, trigger fish, parrot fish, eels and shrimps, Cobia, White and Black Tip Sharks, Stingrays and Stonefish and it is home to a great diversity of fish life.
This island offers diving suitable for professionals scuba divers. The island adjacent to Netrani is used by the Indian navy for target practice. One can see empty shells rusting around Netrani and adjacent island. It is not recommended to visit Netrani without permission. The best time to visit is between December and January. The sea becomes rough during the months of June September and tourists are not allowed to go for diving.
