Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary
Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is located in a small village in shimoga district. The village is about 30 kms from shimoga town. The sanctuary is surrounded by dense forest and the total area spans of 1.14 acres, the place is famous for its migratory birds. The sanctuary is one of the popular bird sanctuaries in bangalore and attracts a lot of indian and foreign tourists. The tourist inflow will be more between july and september. The place is quite a hit among the bird watchers with the island providing a safe haven for the birds during the nesting season. A watchtower also has been put here for bird watching. There are three types of migratory birds which comes here, among them are the Darter,also known as snake birds, Little cormorant,and the Median egret.
Other major attractions includes The Sakrebayalu Elephant Camp, here tourists are allowed to wash the elephants, which is an interesting tourist activity in the region. The elephant camp is about 15 kms from mandagadde. Another attraction is The Gajanur Dam, which is only 5 kms from the Sakrebayalu Elephant camp. July to september is the best time to visit the place.

Mandagadde is about 345 kms from Bangalore, 140 kms from Mangalore and 30 Kms from Shimoga. It is on the way to theerthahalli from shimoga. The sanctuary is well connected by road but the best place to stay is shimoga.
