Lalbagh Flower Show
Flower shows are organised every year on Republic day & Independence day. The event is jointly organised by The Department of Horticulture and Mysore Horticulture Society. This year its the 201′st edition of the show. In this years show there are over 200 varieties of flowers and around 20,000 decorated pots. The extravagant flower show has been attracting visitors & dignitaries from across the globe for years,conducted over the last 102 years. Lalbagh was a 40-acre private garden of Mysore ruler Hyder Ali in 1760, that was further developed by his son Tipu Sultan. It was declared a Government Botanical Garden in 1856. The garden is now 240 acres which now house some of the world’s rarest plant species.
The event was started when Mr.G.H. Krumbeigel took over as the superintendent of Lalbagh. Each show costs around Rs.90 lakhs. There are lot of Vendors selling scarves and other clothing items, plants, gardening products etc. Various Bangalore nurseries also have set up shop around the gardens.
