Kalahatti Falls – Cascading Beauty in Chikmagalur
Kalhatti Falls also known as Kalahasti Falls is situated in chikkmagaluru district, Karnataka. The waterfall is situated just 10 kms from Kemmangundi hill station. It is one of the spectacular and most picturesque waterfalls in Karnataka. The water falls from a height of 122 metres in a charming natural location from the Chandra Drona hill in front of the veerabadreshwara temple dedicated to lord shiva. The virabhadra temple is supposed to be built during the Vijayanagar times. The temple is decorated with three stone carvings of elephants and water cascades over these elephants and it is believed that the water has the power to cure many illness. An annual fair of lord virabhadra is held for 3 days during the month of march/April. This is also a trekkers destination with the base in tarikere, about 35 kms from Kemmangundi. The nearest railway station is birur, The Shimoga Express leaves bangalore at around 23:10 and reaches birur at 03:15 am. From birur you can take buses. The Mudumalai forest, the Bandipur forest, Hebbe Falls, Kemmangundi, Muthodi, backwaters of Bhadra reservoir, Baba Budangiri, Mullyanagiri, Belur, Halebidu are some of the major tourist attractions near to Kalhatti falls.
