EC Plans To link Aadhar with Electoral rolls.
The election commission of India is planning to link Aadhar card with the electoral rolls in March this year. The aim is to create an authentic database of voters and eradicate the bogus voters. The initiative named “Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Drive” (ERPAD) is supposed to be launched in around 676 districts and is expected to be completed before August. The Aadhar enrolment process is not yet complete in many parts of Karnataka and only Tumkuru and Mysuru districts have reached the 100% Coverage.
As part of the initiative, every voter has to update his/her’s Aadhar card number on ECI’s website, Although it has not been made mandatory for the time being like DBTL, linking Aadhar with EPIC cards, The ECI is keen on linking the two. The ECI website also provides people an opportunity to rectify any error in spelling, date of birth, address etc. There are around 72 lakh voters in Bengaluru.
