BMTC buses to be CCTV, GPS-enabled
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corportion (BMTC) is on itsway to embracing technology. Anand C.G., General Manger (Technical), BMTC, said CCTVs were already instated in 500 buses at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore. “We have sent the proposal to install CCTVs in the remaining 6,500 buses to the Union under the Nirdhaya Scheme,” he added.
Apart from this, the BMTC also plans to have its own tracking system. Kumar Pushkar, Director (IT), BMTC, said the ‘Intelligent Transport System’, which envisages equipping all BMTC buses with GPS by July 2014, will fulfill the operational and safely criteria.
“With this system in place, we will be able to monitor all our buses. In the instance of the alleged attempted molestation by a BMTC driver had deviated from the regular course and it went undetected” he said.
